Kompuestos is an active member of the “Circular Single-Use Catering Products” CBPM project. In this project, Kompuestos aims to develop resins that are either home compostable or biodegradable in nature for the production of more sustainable single-use catering articles.
Plastic catering products are increasingly used by consumers in everyday life. However, when made of fossil-based plastics, their use often generates high amounts of waste that is difficult to recycle or, even worse, unintentionally leaks into the natural environment. The main focus of this project is to create a circular end-of-life scenario for those products through recycling and prompt biodegradation in nature (soil and sea) if eventually littered.
This work is part of the Circular and Biobased Performance Materials research programme of Wageningen University and Research and partly sponsored by the Dutch Topsector AgriFood and Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
