Kompuestos (Plásticos CompuestosS.A.), a company listed on the MAB and leader in the production of sustainable compounds for plastics in Europe, has obtained revenues of 16.088 million euros in the period from January to April 2020, an increase of 1.27% over the same period last year.
The company has continued to be fully operational during the months of March and April 2020, as a company with essential activities in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and a supplier to the food and health industries. The company's two plants have maintained their production levels, responding to both domestic and international demand.
Kompuestos is present in over 40 countries, with sales outside the Spanish market accounting for 68 % of the total in 2019. This geographical diversification has been maintained during the first four months of 2020, with a volume of sales to foreign markets accounting for 60% of total sales in this period.
In addition to the above-mentioned food and health sectors, Kompuestos is a supplier to many other sectors of activity, including agriculture, construction, the automotive industry, the toy and sports products sector and many others based on the production of plastic products. This diversification of sectors is one of the company's great strengths, capable of responding to the various variations in demand as a result of the social and economic situation.
The constant commitment to innovation is a distinctive feature of the company. In fact, nearly 80% of the company's total revenue during the first four months comes from products launched during the last five years. In this sense, Kompuestos continues to be committed to the development of the circular economy and the protection of the environment through the development of a sustainable plastics industry, a commitment made as a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Thus, a large part of its efforts are focused on the development of its range of mineral plastic concentrates, biodegradable and compostable plastics and water-based biodegradable plastics. In fact, the processes for the approval of sustainable plastics have increased by 53% with respect to the previous year.
On the one hand, the Exfill® range, whose mineral origin makes it possible to reduce the use of petrochemicals during the manufacture of these products and also their carbon footprint, in addition to being completely recyclable. On the other hand, the compostable resins range of biodegradable and compostable plastics, as well as the Okean® range of biodegradable plastics in water, constitute Kompuestos' most innovative business lines. Based on biodegradable and compostable resins made from starches and other biopolymers of renewable origin, these products are designed to respond to the global problem of plastic contamination in natural environments.
Kompuestos is continuously working to develop new formulations in order to offer viable solutions for different applications. Since January, Kompuestos has managed to obtain 4 new OK Industrial Compost certificates for its compostable resins range, two of which are also considered OK Home Compost. In addition, Kompuestos has obtained 3 new OK WATER certificates for its Okean® product range.
The company recently presented its annual results for 2019. During the year, the company's turnover amounted to 46.3 million euros, 11.8 % more than in 2018. It also achieved an absolute gross margin of 14 million euro, 17.5 % higher than in the previous year. The company's net financial debt amounted to 11.7 million euro, 17.9% less than in the same period last year.
